Our clothes have arrived..

So exciting, our gorgeous new clothes from Metalicus have arrived!

The bodywear label from Australia was started in the 90's when Melbourne fashion designer Melma Hamersfield was experimenting with stocking fabric. The collections are designed so the pieces can be used as basics or layered together to create an individual look and each season works with the previous seasons.

Being more of an amazon than a waif, I wasn't convinced how the single size concept could work, but although some of the bodytight items are better suited to smaller girls there is something for everyone! The fabric is designed to stretch and return to its previous shape. I've also selected flattering styles that make a girl feel great. The clothes don't need to be ironed and many of the items translate brilliantly from day to night, making them the travelling girl's dream.

A friend of mine mentioned she still wears all of her Metalicus stuff from 5 years ago and they look as good as new. So the range gets a big tick for style, quality and the feel good factor.

We like it a lot and sure you'll love it too.

Handmade is cool..

These gorgeous Jezze notebooks and little zip purses have just arrived in store. The fabric is sourced locally in Cape Town and the patterns printed with individual hand carved blocks. We love the handmade care that's gone into them.

Notebooks are R100 and zip purses are R80.

Klone bags..

I mentioned we got some new stock in today. Those of you that know our shop, would've seen these Klone bags before and will be happy to hear we've just got a whole lot in stock in some lovely shades of reds and browns.

With leather that makes you want to touch and smell it, classic shapes that justify your recession-spend and names like Big Fat Bushpig and Holy Wildebeest - they are sure not to be in the shop for long.

Handbags are retailing for R1800, while the overnight and weekender bags are R2200 and R3000 respectively.

You've got to love gorgeous, locally made items!!

Envirosax are back in stock!

One of our favourite stock items, the Envirosax reusable shopping bag is back in stock. They're stylish, convenient and most importantly serve as the perfect replacement to the nasty plastic bag.

At R85 each, you can stock up on a few for you and friends.

I am not sure I should care that JT uses them, but he is pretty cool!

I thought it would be a good idea to post a picture of the shop. It changes quite often but this will give you a feel of the place.

Abby & Ross - a short history!

Abby & Ross was conceived in October 2008, when Ro & I looked at frustration at the "black hole" next to Park Cafe and despaired at what may open there. Our existing businesses Polish Nail Spa and Park Cafe were buzzing and we decided that it was essential that we fill the vacant shop with something that would excite us and (hopefully) our fabulous and loyal clients.

The silly season was approaching and a Christmas shop seemed like an obvious choice. We wanted to creates something that felt different to the shops in big malls a bit of a "shop around the corner", filled with gorgeous and whimsical gifts.

The name represented the partnership; Abby is a family name of Ro's and Ross is my surname.

So after an insane month of sourcing products and transforming the space, Abby & Ross opened on 1 November. It was filled with all things delectable - wonderful Christmas decorations (Maileg pixies, glass engraved balls and tasteful white ceramic shapes); retro tin toys, gorgeous stationery, candles, glassware and the wonderful Assouline range of books.

As you may have gathered, the Christmas shop has stayed open as a gift shop and hopefully continues to provide it's customers with something a little different to other shops around Jozi.

Our blog is going to be filled with new products, inspirations and gift ideas.
